Now that Thanksgiving’s over, we immediately shift our focus to Christmas. Neighbors already have the lights up, the airwaves and bells are jingling, and presents are starting to come early. As a gift for Black Friday, two Billboard topping rap stars, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole have released new tracks on Soundcloud. Both artists posted a new song today freestyling over one of the other’s most recent beats. K. Dot finesses his flow on “A Tale of 2 Citiez” instrumental, and Cole attempts to bring even more soul to Lamar’s “Alright”.
The most alarming fact about the release, however, was that the songs share the same title, “Black Friday”, and also come from two hip-hop icons that have been hinting at a collab project for years now. In Cole’s “Black Friday” at the end he states that the joint will never come to fruition, but hints at a new release in February. Could this be a new solo album? Despite the denial, it still seems like a high possibility the two may bless us with a project, but we could be looking too far into it. This at least serves as something to hold us off and keep the dream alive. I know what I’m asking Mr. Claus to put under my tree this year.
Peep the new tracks below and let us know what you think is coming this February.
